Anodonta cygnea

The present paper investigated the suitability and the performance of two species of mussels, Anodonta cygnea and Anodonta woodiana, for treatment of waste waster originated from breweries.
The experiments conducted over a three-month period and although too short for a full statistical analysis, the results showed that mussels decrease the organic matter content of the waste water. The cleaning activity depends upon a series of factors, dissolved oxygen content being the most important. Mussel cultivation and biometrical measurements are described followed by a description of the waste water, the methodology of measuring water quality parameters, and the performance
of the filtration process.
