As FFZ e-mail warnings are working badly... and, I'm sure, we forget to check if we receive messages, I create this folder to post here our warnings about private FFZ e-mails.

This thread is an excellent idea.
I'm pleased about this thread, because it's true that reminders that we have FFZ mail do not always appear.
We may need to contact a forum member and can't get them either by ordinary e-mail [I think we all have problems with our e-mail from time to time - I certainly do!] or by MSN.

We have a thread like this in the Italian section since the beginning of the forum but... never it's too late!

Tickets for the Pius XII Mass
If anyone is in Rome on October 9th and would like to go to the Mass for the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Pius XII, please FFZ me or reply on this thread.
Two tickets are waiting in my name and I cannot now go on that date, due to Valerie's illness. Contact me and I'll tell you where you can pick them up. It would be a shame to waste them.

I've been dithering for weeks about which date to go to Rome this autumn and a couple of months ago decided to go next week. I asked for the tickets, but did nothing about booking flight or hotel, because of Valerie's uncertainty about the condition of her eye.

Luff und choy!

Maryjos -

That sounds like a great opportunity. I wish I could take you up on it, but I'm going to Rome in November and December. Is Papa saying the Mass?

Mass for Pius XII
Janice - yes, Papa is celebrating the Mass. It's a shame I decided not to go. I've been wondering whether or not to go to Rome at all before the end of the year. So pleased to hear you will be there. For how long are you going? Will it be your first time there?
I've tried to FFZ mail you, but can't get into your profilo. Please FFZ me, as I don't like to put my e-mail address on the forum.

Many servers are down
Dear Everyone!

Many of us cannot access the forum; it has now been two days since this happened. Simone55 sent me a link which works. Let's pray that the forum soon returns for all of us!

HELP!!!!
What is happening?
Two nights ago, I was posting my translation of the Holy Father's remarks after the Mass for John XXIII when I got one of those messages about not being able to reach the server... I have kept trying since then and I keep getting the server error message.... I went to ffz home and there was a message saying that there was a server maintenance problem they were dealing with and hoped to get everything back to normal ASAP....Kept trying throughout the day and night, but zilch!... Tried again as soon as I woke up today and still the same server message for PAPA RATZINGER FORUM....

In the course of reviewing other things online, I tried clicking on a link to the PRF in one of the blogs - and lo and behold, I am in...So thinking, the server problem must be over, I went and tried to open a new PRF window, but the same server error message...

So for the time being, I am accessing the Forum through a link in a blog! Apparently, no one has had the same problem as I do because there are regular posts on the Forum.

Can someone please tell me how they access the PRF? For the past 3-1/2 years, I've always simply typed in 'ratzigirl' which brings me to the Google list with the regular link to PRF... but that's the way that keeps getting me the server error message now. How can the main link claim a server error, while a hyperlink through a blog works????

I did some translating during my enforced absence, so I will be posting those as soon as I have re-oriented myself!

P.S. Sorry, I was so excited just to get back on and send out this SOS that I did not notice Mary also posted a similar complaint above....

Benefan, it seems you did not have a problem as you were able to post....

There is still a problem
Teresa - Many of us have not been able to access the forum for 48 hours now. Simone55 sent me a link which works, so I've put that in my Bookmarks. It seems we have to find roundabout ways of getting to the forum for the moment. But let us hope all will soon be well!

Same problem too

I had the same problem getting on for nearly a day so I tried other links that I googled with no success. Finally, yesterday late afternoon, I got on the usual way and posted a few articles. I didn't have any problems this morning--yet. I hope things clear up. Not everybody will be able to figure out alternative ways of finding us.

This is the link I use to get on. It takes me straight to the English section.

It appears from what she and another member said - who 'entered' through FFZ central - that the server was down for most of yesterday - that's the 'maintenance on October 29' that they had posted, along with a note that they also had server problems they were trying to repair ASAP.

It seems that during the 'maintenance' they somehow disabled the main link to the Forum for most people - it's the one you get when you type PAPA RATZINGER FORUM in Google search - which is not good for the Forum because the Server Error messsage says that there is no server to connect to, so regular people just trying to check us out will think the Forum is no longer operative. (I was so confident that the main link could not possibly give a wrong message about Server Error that I did not even bother to check other ways to get in!]

I will see if Gloria can ask the FFZ administrators to straighten out the mess. But I believe we have to think seriously of some back-up for the Forum that is not at the mercy of FFZ, and about which I have no idea what could possibly be done and how!

TERESA

The Mass for the Pontifical Universities has begun, so Papino should be speaking in about an hour.... His voice coming through Vatican Radio online kept me going during the 'drought' - I heard the audience catechesis live and then on re-broadcast, among other things.... and this morning, I heard him addressing the Jewish group....

If Image Shack closes down, does that mean that all the photos we have posted from it will disappear from the forum? I HOPE NOT!!!!!!!
Does everyone recommend using Photo Bucket from now on?

I THINK THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT MEANS - BECAUSE IF THEY CLOSE DOWN, THEN WHO DO WE ACCESS? THEIR WEB ADDRESS WOULD BECOME INOPERATIVE.

IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT MOST OF THE IMAGESHACK PHOTOS POSTED EARLIER HAVE ALREADY DISAPPEARED. LOOK THROUGH THE THREADS ON THE PAPAL TRIPS - AND YOU'LL REALIZE HOW MUCH HAS DISAPPEARED. I REGRET THAT MOST.

ALSO, ALL THE PHOTOS THAT PEOPLE MOSTLY PICKED UP FROM THE SOURCE - COPIED THE URL AND THEN POSTED IT ON THE FORUM WITHOUT UPLOADING IT FIRST TO AN IMAGE-SERVER - ARE GONE. FOR INSTANCE, MOST OF THE PHOTOS THAT RATZIGIRL AND THE ITALIAN GIRLS POSTED BEFORE 2007.

I REGRET NOW THAT SOMETIME IN 2006, I BECAME SO BUSY - AND THE THREADS TO KEEP TRACK OF BECAME SO MANY - THAT I STOPPED WHAT I USED TO DO DAILY - PRINT OUT THE PHOTO PAGES FOR THE DAY.

FOR THAT MATTER, WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL THE FORUM MATERIAL - AT LEAST ALL THE BENEDICT THREADS WHICH NONE OF US WOULD WANT TO LOSE - IF, GOD FORBID, FFZ CLOSED SHOP?

Speaking of closing up shop...

I just read in the Italian section that they are closing up quite a bit--all the discussion threads, if I translated correctly. They are still accepting news and photos but are shrinking down with the notion of trying to reshape what is left and regroup. If they lose interest and close down their part, what happens to us as a subsection of their forum?

There are often more than a hundred viewers online at a time. Obviously, there is an interest in what we have here even if not everybody contributes.

I am sorry - I was busy most of the time today translating two addresses by the Pope and a few stories, not to mention following the Closing Mass of the VI-WEF in Mexico on TV - so I did not have a chance to leave the confines of the English section till now that Benefan has called attention to a new notice posted in the main Forum.

Do not be alarmed. The administrators are simply streamlining, while they rethink what the most appropriate structure and direction would be for the Forum. The changes affect the main Italian part of the Forum, not the foreign-language sections.

Here is a translation of Sihaya's notice:

Dearest participants (male and female), old friends and new arrivals, active co-workers and occasional readers, passionate believers, impenitent atheists and dubious skeptics:

You have read us, you have appreciated the forum, you have criticized it.

This Forum was born as a homage to the Holy Father - as an information platform, a place of encounter, a space to share, an arena for (constructive) confrontation.

After three years and a half, the Forum is taking a bit of a retreat. We are not closing down - just that the discussion threads will only be readable for now. Only the informative sections - with news and photos - will remain open as before.

In effect, the Forum will function as an information service. We are closing off the areas for 'debate' and closing down the topics that have been 'exhausted' (they have not been touched for months).

We hope to come up with a new structure, and we ask you not to fail to give suggestions [in the administrative threads].

With thanks to everyone,

THE STAFF

Grazie a tutti!!

News about the forum
Dearest Ladies!
I have decided for a "reshape" of the forum: the folders with discussions (Ecclesia, Congregazione, Concilio...there were a sort of "arena" of fight between atheists and two of our users, Bestion and Voce nel Deserto, mostly about Italian news topics) have benn hidden to normal users and visible to moderators only. Those folders have not been deleted but just hidden.
Such a restyling does not affetct foreign sections: foreign sections are the only that still function at their best, they are still preserving the original idea and the original spirit of Papa Ratzinger Forum and are the only one to deserve our admiration and trust!
So, please go on, the forum is yours now!!
In the Italian forum the folders visible to everyone are still open to new discussions.

Baci!! W IL PAPA!!

Papa Ratzinger Forum must go on FOR EVER!!!!
I must admit I'm a bit worried. We are not talking about some "here today gone tomorrow" celebrity, footballer or film star, but about the Holy Father himself. I have relied on this forum for photos, news and friendly discussion ever since Joseph Ratzinger was elected. I've saved very many of the photos, but not all. I used to look at the American Ratzinger forum too, but that now has very few active members and I don't look at it any more. Usually I go to the blogs, but only after I have checked our forum here for news items, tirelessly posted by Teresa. I can see what Sihaya means about the Italian section and re-grouping the threads. All I hope is that the whole forum continues for ever, even into the next papacy [which I'd rather not think about for many years]. There will always be a need for a comprehensive forum/website about Joseph Ratzinger.

With much luff and, I hope, choy to you all - Mary xxxx
This forum always has the "thumbs up" from me!

I think that for the time being, it is only the french section of imageshack that is closing. I am going to transfer to photobucket.

Anyway, I save all the pictures I like right away just in case...

Have to say goodbye...

No, ci vuole tempo, dedizione, immaginazione, cercare di capire come funziona.

Grazie!!!
