Thats really really heart-stopping

The Benedict phenomenon continues to flower week after week - most evident
photographically in the amazing snapshot-portraits of Papino at his Wednesday
audiences. This week, Paparatzifan offers us this selection from leoste.it
to show that when the subject is B16, almost every photographer ends up being
a Spaziani!

a phrase that trips so beautifully on the tongue and is sooooooooooo appropriate.
I love the way Italian can create adjectives that seem like native words. RATZOSO(A) is one, and its superlative form RATZOSISSIMO(A).
Ratzigirl and the other veteran consorelle have been using it for ages to describe anything uniquely or characteristically Ratzi!



Meanwhile, tons of RATZIBACI to Papino.
I picked up this wonderful neologism today from Josie, who says it was thought up by Gabriella.

The most scrumptious of some 1977 pictures Palma posted in the main forum, all of which I've added to the 1977 article in
ENCOUNTERS WITH The FUTURE POPE.
I think if Papino's head had only been turned more towards the camera in the picture posted right above by Palma,
to the same angle as he was photographed in this 1977 photo, he would look almost as he did 30 years go!

Dear Lord, a spate of new 'cardinal' pictures has been posted in the main forum the past two days about which
I have been oblivious!

Paparatzifan posted these two photos taken from the new picture book BENEDICT XVI: DAWN OF A NEW PAPACY
(published in Italian). So here's the photo Ratzigirl was talking about earlier, about Ratzi reading
a newspaper with a teddy bear beside him! A teddy bear with a red scarf and a pectoral Cross! Does anyone
doubt it is his teddy bear - enduring memory of his first Christmas gift at age 2?

It's also very interesting that he is reading a French newspaper called THE NEW MAN, and that the
lead article is titled TU ES PETRUS! Quite apart from being heartstoppingly gorgeous, this picture is
so symbolic in many ways!

And so is Ratzi at the piano, with two little animal figurines also wearing little cardinal birettas!
[I also like the touch of the white short-stemmed flowers in a little bowl...]

Our infinitely beloved and lovable Papino remains a boy at heart, and that is why he looks ageless!

WHAT LOVELY PHOTOS!!!

Can anybody read the date on the newspaper? These photos look like they must be of Papa in his golden 50s. What a beautiful man!

I tried to figure out the date using a magnifying glass but the letters in the masthead are just
too faint...I agree it would have been in his golden 50s, maybe shortly after he came to Rome as
CDF Prefect, because the bookcases look like the ones he had in Piazza della Citta Leonina. If so,
then the little touches would be Maria's, whom incidentally, Gabriella remembered yesterday on
the occasion of her birthday (she would have been 83), in what has now become the Ratzinger
family thread (in the French section).

Meanwhile, Ratzigirl posts the latest Ratzi-treasures offered on ebay. The cardinal-card is familiar,
but the picture in the book is equally ZOINKS!!!!!! and something I don't believe we have seen before.

I hope we get to see more of Papino's 'casual'
pictures as Pope like this one. I'm trying to
figure out what the huge mural is - it does
not look like a Biblical scene....

Thanks a lot for pics....It's nice to see Papa sitting with Teddy bear on sofa. And the small cardinal hats are very cute so...It's very nice Papa is used to have this little non-useful things.

Caterina picked this up from the newspaper of the Spanish Civil Guard - and of course, at the time this happened,
we had regular-size pictures of it...OK, I've decided to go for the oversize format posting:

Most of us have probably seen this before in a smaller format and cropped to show only the face,
but WHAT A LOVE! Thanks to Ratzigirl for this fresh take on a truly fresh-faced cardinal...

Paparatzifan bought the book and shows us how amazing the cover photo really is -
I didn't quite appreciate it when I saw it in the thumbnail version! Oh those eyes!!!!!
