To include any Catholic television channels viewed by our members.
Some of us watch EWTN a lot, but please also use this thread for any Papal broadcasts you watch on other channels. I think KTO is viewed by some of our European members and there are other channels in Germany and Italy.

I thought this thread would be a good idea, because sometimes I come close to missing - yes, missing! - Papa live on EWTN. This is because not all the events from the Vatican are included in the monthly schedule I receive and we have to rely on the Vatican website.

All I did was to click on Nuova to the left of Rispondi and it allowed me to start a new thread. I'm sure this is, or was, open to all members.

Luff to all,

Concert on December 6th
@benefan:Do you know what time - Rome time - this concert will take place? EWTN viewers will need to know, so that we can switch on an hour before that time. There's an outside chance it will be shown on EWTN. Not one of the concerts [and there have been several, haven't there!] has been shown on EWTN, which is such a shame. I don't think they can afford to "buy" everything from CTV, as the cost is tremendous.

Thank you for the information about other Catholic stations.

Just seen the First Vespers. Papa's cope looked rather heavy. I like the new staff, but I didn't dislike the Pius IX one.

Oops - just re-read your post above and you do give the time. That's Eastern Time plus five hours for London time. Thanks, benefan!!

OK - it's not EWTN, but I like checking out Catholic TV.  They have lots of selections including Papal Programming on demand.  And what I like about it is, it's in English over voice.

Check out their website at http://www.catholictv.com/shows/default.aspx?seriesID=124&videoID=903

and go to the home page.  You can review all the categories and what they have in each.

VESPERS FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Papa will preside at Vespers for students from the various universities of Rome in Saint Peter's basilica on Thursday, December 17th at 17.30 pm - that is, 16.30 London time and five hours earlier Eastern Time USA.

This sort of thing is usually aired live by EWTN even if it isn't in the schedule of special programming - so be ready with your recorders and fingers on the record button!!!!!

This was, indeed, aired live by EWTN and was beautiful - lovely music. Papa looked superb in a sort of "old rose" coloured cope - I'm not very good on these colours. I don't like copes - full stop! But I know that's what he has to wear for Vespers. The cope seems to swamp him.

Haven't checked to see if there are any photos on the news pages, as I've been without my computer for nearly three days. Was just beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!

Nativity Scene in Saint Peter's Square
I didn't know beforehand or I would have posted about this. EWTN showed about fifteen minutes of the inauguration of the creche. The whole one and a half hours were shown on CTV and I was able to see all of it on my computer. Papa didn't attend this year. Did he last year? I can't remember. But.....his window was opened as the band played "Silent Night" and then the light went off in the room and Papa came to the window and placed a lighted candle in a glass bowl on his window sill. It was a memorable moment! That was not shown on EWTN so I couldn't record it.
There was quite a long liturgy of the Word and some lovely singing by small children wearing Santa hats, some dancing by young people and more singing of rather modern Christmas songs by another group of young people wearing long gowns and light blue scarves.
Unfortunately it was raining all the time, but no one seemed to mind!
Near the end the little children had yellow or white balloons and after the countdown from "dieci" to "uno" let them up into the sky with a "Buon Natale!".
Wish I had been there!!!!
!

Father Hogan is the founder and father director of the Fraternity of Saint Genesius, which is dedicated to furthering knowledge of the Catholic Faith through the media. CatholicTV Will Air Vespers Service With Pope on Feast of Conversion of St. Paul

Catholic Online

WATERTOWN, MA (January 21, 2010) - On Monday, January 25, CatholicTV will air the Celebration of Vespers presided over by Pope Benedict XVI from the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome.

This Vespers service will air on CatholicTV cable outlets and on CatholicTV.com at 8PM and will be rebroadcast at noon the following day (all times Eastern).

This Vespers service takes place at the conclusion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Each year the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches chooses a theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This year, 2010, the theme is based on the biblical verse of Luke 24:48: You Are Witnesses of These Things. Honoring the Week of Prayer takes place between the feasts of Saints Peter and Paul. The week gives Christians an annual opportunity to continue to work towards unity which is already shared in Christ. It is also a time to gather in praise of the Triune God and to deepen the understanding of the ecumenical movement.

During the same feast in 2009, the Pope spoke of conversion in his homily saying, “one recognizes that this new journey cannot come from oneself. It consists in letting oneself be conquered by Christ. As St Paul says: "I am racing to grasp the prize if possible, since I have been grasped by Christ [Jesus]" (Phil 3: 12). Conversion demands our "yes", my "racing"; ultimately it is not my action, but a gift in letting myself be formed by Christ.”

CatholicTV regularly airs Papal and Vatican events: More information can be found at www.CatholicTV.com/shows/default.aspx?seriesID=57

Information about where to watch CatholicTV is available at www.CatholicTV.com/schedule/where-to-watch.aspx.

CatholicTV is a nationally-broadcasted television network streaming a live feed 24 hours a day at CatholicTV.com. Heeding Pope Benedict XVI's call to greater utilize the power of television and new media, the CatholicTV Network features its cable TV station, Catholic web site, mobile apps and widget. Celebrate Mass online; pray The Rosary; enjoy programs on prayer, the saints, the Scriptures and the Catholic Church on America's Catholic Television Network.

SAINT DAMIEN
EWTN To Feature Documentaries on
the Leper Priest and Genocide in Sudan

EWTN airs two fascinating documentaries this week along with a special Mass of Thanksgiving for the canonization of St. Damien of Molokai.

One might ask why Father Damien's congregation requested a Mass on Jan. 31, since this was not a significant date in the saint's life. It turns out that Jan. 31 is World Leprosy Day and the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary wants people to know that “leprosy is treatable, touchable and curable.”

The Mass will air at 2 p.m. ET from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Nuncio to the U.S., with a homily by Rev. William Petrie from St. Damien's own congregation.

Most people know that this saint – who was canonized in October 2009 – was known as the “leper priest” because he ministered to those afflicted with this disease on the Hawaiian island of Molakai and that, as a result, he himself contracted and died of the disease..

Check Liturgical Celebrations

It is very likely that some of the liturgical celebrations listed on the Vatican website will be shown live on EWTN. Not all of these are in the EWTN schedule, so it's always a good idea to make notes from the Vatican website too.

The next Mass from Saint Peter's will be on this coming Thursday, 11 th February at 10.30 am Rome time.

I'm afraid I didn't know that the visit to Caritas was going to be shown on EWTN this morning - at 9 am GMT. Luckily, I switched on just as it was starting and was able to record it. Beautiful!!!!!!!!

We have a Holy Father who really cares about all people and hugs and kisses them. Anyone [not among our members, of course!] who still thinks he's a distant, scholarly professor out of touch with reality, should be made to watch this.

He's so holy! [It was a nightmare for Domenico Giani and his colleagues, though! Well done, Domenico!!!!]

I don't know what form the service will take, but both the Lutheran pastor and the Holy Father will give sermons.
